Dempo Goodwill Ambasador-Devashree Group- Master Anurag Mhamal Becomes First Goan International Master
In the just concluded Grand Europe Open Albena International Chess tournament at Bulgaria today , 18 year old Dempo Goodwill Ambasador-“Devashree Group”- Master Anurag Mhamal finally achieved his dream target of becoming the Ist Goan International Master in Chess. This is a second highest Title in Chess. He had set this Target at a very young age of 7 yrs and the moment he was conferred Dempo Goodwill Ambasadorship there was no looking back for Anurag, who finally achieved his dream. Anurag is very happy about his achievement and says that this is a proud moment for him . He says that now he has no regrets that he sacrificed his educational dream of becoming a software engineer by changing from Science stream to Commerce stream in order to dedicate more time for Chess. Anurag`s parents are overjoyed and are grateful to Mr Shrinivas Dempo for his continuous support and financial backing extended to Anurag. His next immediate target now will be to achieve his remaining two Grand Master Norms. Anurag already has one Grand Master Norm in his kitty with a rating 2401 and has gained 11 more point s from this tournament. He now requires two more GM norms and the rating of 2500 + to become GM.
Anurag scored 6 points out of 9 rounds and achieved his final IM Norm. He defeated IM Arnaudov Peter of Bulgaria, WIM Tarasava Viktoriya of Russia, Savov Zheljazko of Bulgaria and Cavusoglu Yildiz of Turkey and drew with GM Grigorov Grigorof Bulgaria and GM Spasov Vasil of Argentina.
Anurag had achieved his 2 earlier IM Norms at National Premier Chess Championship in November 2013 and Rose valley Grandmaster Open Chess Championship at Kolkata in December 2013. He has also won a Gold Medal at the Asian Junior Blitz Chess Championship at Sarjah UAE in April 2013.
Anurag Mhamal is a student of Vaicuntrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Commerce, Miramar, Panaji Goa. He is coached by Mr Akash Thakur of Nagpur and has also taken Coaching from Grand Master Pravin Thipsay and Grand Master Mr R.B Ramesh of Chennai.

Niraj Saripalli and Nandhini Saripalli wins All Goa State Junior ( U-19) Open and Girls Chess selection 2013
Both brother and sister Niraj Saripalli , student of RMS Higher Secondary School Margoa and Nandhini Saripalli, student of Damodar College won the All Goa State Junior ( U-19) Open and Girls Chess selection 2013 conducted by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association in aegis with Goa Chess Association and Fr. Agnelo College Pilar held at Fr. Agnelo College of Arts & Commerce Pilar, Goa.
Niraj and Rohan Ahuja scored 5.5 points each from 6 rounds but on better tie break Niraj went on winning the Championship. Rohan Ahuja finished second . Kapil Pawse and Deepak Gopalan scored 4.5 points and finished 3rd and 4th respectively . Anirudh Bhat and Shane Braganza scored 4 points and finished 5th and 6th respectively.
In the Girls section Nandhini Saripalli won the championship with the score of 4.5 points from 5 rounds. Second place went to Krystal Fernandes who scored 4 points . Sonali Kerkar scored 4 points and finished 3rd. Ridhi Zantye and Gauri Hadkonkar scored 3.5 points and finished 4th and 5th respectively. Sakshi Naik Gaonkar with the score of 3 points finished 6th.
First 4 players from Open and Girls category each will represent Goa at National to be held at Uttar Pradesh.
